Dear Beckett,
I feel like four months is a turning point in a baby's life, and you are certainly proof of that. It seems like you've gone from a helpless infant to a baby who notices and really understands what's going on around him this past month.
You absolutely adore watching your sister. You are so interested in what she is doing, and your eyes follow her around the room. She keeps trying to teach you how to play peek-a-boo, and while you don't quite get it, you do think it's funny. Watching the two of you interact and hearing your belly laughs is magical.
While you look so much like your father, you definitely take after me in the ticklish department. Even when you are sleeping, you jerk your foot away if someone tries to touch it. Or hold it in order to cut your toenails. Even your hands are this ticklish, which makes cutting your fingernails quite the adventure. I put it off so long this last time that you managed to gouge your nose pretty badly with a fingernail. Sorry about that!
You continue to sleep through the night most nights, which goes towards the top of the list of reasons that I love you. You tend to sleep more soundly in the swing, but you'll even sleep for 6-8 hours in your crib. I'm so amazed by this, I've called the church to investigate this miracle.
I'm not sure if it's second-child syndrome or what, but you are one talkative baby. Constantly babbling, cooing, oohing, just going on and on. And the louder we try to talk over you, the louder you get. I swear, you are going to be talking in complete sentences by the time you turn one. Just remember, it's pronounced Mom-my.
I am pretty sure that it is second-child syndrome that you don't yet roll over. It's just not safe to put you on the ground when Elise is around. She loves you so much that she is right on top of you immediately. You sit very well, though, with just the littlest bit of help, so I know your muscles are developing just fine. Rolling over is overrated anyhow!
In general, you are such a happy baby to be around. You laugh comes from your soul, and your smile is full of joy. When you were a newborn, I met a Filipino woman who told me that your cowlick swirl was a sign of a blessed, fortunate life. When I showed her your second one, she grabbed my hands with delight, claiming you would live a very charmed life. Crossing my fingers that she is right; you deserve nothing less. I love you much, Mommy
