...and I'm just posting. I guess I'm not going to earn Mother of the Year this year.
Anyhow, most of you already know, but Beckett Robert made his grand debut on April 15, 2009, at 3:53 pm, after a c-section. Yes, the little stinker decided to turn breech. Add to that very low amniotic fluid levels, and he earned himself a vacate notice via c-section. I was none too happy about this; I was terrified of the surgery and selfishly wanted to experience going into labor on my own (I was induced with Elise). However, he knew what he was doing, as it turns out that he had a true knot in his cord. Being the dork that I am, I had to research what that meant, and most research says that a true knot has a 5-11% fetal mortality rate. The c-section was obviously worth the pain and fear - he is here and happy and healthy. And beautiful.
He weighed in at 8 lb 8 oz and was 20.75" - a big boy for only 38 weeks gestation!
These first 11 days have definitely been an adjustment. Even with help nearly 100% of the time, managing two kids without tearing my hair out or yelling is quite the feat. Elise is doing remarkably well as a big sis. She has adjusted quite well (a BIG thanks to my mom for giving her undivided attention for 8 days!) and just loves her little brother.
Beckett is quite the polar opposite of his sister. He is content unless he is hungry or having his diaper changed. I was even able to take a shower this morning while he snoozed in his swing. When Elise was little, she had to be held 24/7 or she was screaming. Beckett definitely loves to be cuddled, but he also is fine on his own. All I can say is thank goodness - I love Elise's fiery personality, but one of those is plenty for this family!
I promise to get back into my Project 365 in the next day or two. I've taken photos every day since I last posted, but have had a few other things occupying my time. In the mean time, Julie has been showing me up, so check out her blog for your photo fix...and I'll close with a few of my favorite photos from our first few days at home.
