Dear Elise,
On the eve of my return to work, you've turned two months old. I don't know where the time has gone. There were nights when minutes seemed to stretch into hours, and hours into days, but suddenly, you're two months old and it's time for me to go back to work. How did this happen?
You've already become attached to me, although I don't know why! Every time I leave the house, your dad calls me within minutes to let me know you were screaming. Whether or not I left you full, tired, sleeping, or what not, you seemed to sense the moment I left the house. What a feeling for a mother, to realize how much your child already loves you, that she can sense when you leave. But don't ever worry, I'll never leave you for good. Never.
Your first smiles have brought me to tears. Every time you smile at me, my heart literally skips a beat and I get teary-eyed. I can't believe how much your face lights up and your eyes dance. You've got a beautiful smile, kid!
Your favorite thing to do is to sit by yourself on the couch. It amuses you to no end that you can sit all by yourself. I mean, seriously, who needs parents any more? If you could talk, I think you'd say, "Walking on the moon? Curing cancer? What's that compared to sitting ALL BY YOURSELF?" Definitely hot stuff, you are!
As you become more interactive and more independent, I can't wait to introduce the world to you. Every day I see things and think, "Wow, wait until I get to teach Elise about that." We're going to have a great time - you, me, and daddy - learning about this wonderful world and letting you take it on. Watch out world, you've never seen the likes of Elise!
Little girl, I love you so much. It amazes me every day that God trusted me enough to become your mother, and I feel so truly blessed to be honored with this gift.
I love you, Mommy
